OpenClaw 2026.4.26 Breaks Gateway and Discord for Many Users

OpenClaw version 2026.4.26, released this week, has triggered gateway crashes and broken integrations across multiple platforms — Discord and Telegram hit particularly hard. Users on Reddit and community channels report commands like /new and status checks failing entirely, with some experiencing crash loops on startup and boot times stretching past five minutes.

High CPU usage, high latency, and broken plugins have been reported across the board. Users who jumped directly from version .5 to .26 appear to be the most affected. Community consensus points to 2026.4.23 as the last reliably working release.

Workarounds circulating:

  • Roll back: npm install -g [email protected]
  • Run openclaw doctor --fix to resolve configuration or migration issues
  • Restart the gateway after 10–15 minutes
  • Set up a testbench instance before applying updates to production

This isn’t the first time consecutive updates caused widespread breakage — versions 2026.4.24 and .25 also had documented issues. Long-time users are pointing to Hermes Agent as a more stable alternative, with some now using OpenClaw purely as a backup. Microsoft Teams messaging is also reported broken, with a community fix in progress by contributor Brad Groux.
